What gear do I need to bring?
We can provide all the gear for you however if you are an experienced climber you can rent the gear from us at a good price. When climbing you just need to wear loose clothing and when sunny take plenty of sunscreen.
What is the climbing like in Yangshuo?
Yangshou is the most famous climbing spot in China and is a popular destination for climbers worldwide. A perfect trip for many climbers is to hit up the climbing in Thailand and then onto Yangshuo (flights from Thailand to Yangshuo are very cheap). The huge karst peaks of Yangshuo rise out from flat ground, a result of sea level change that has made this area unique in the world. Ever see the famous Chinese paintings of sharp mountains rising from a misty river? This scenery is Yangshou! There are currently over 400 bolted routes, famous climbers come here with the challenge of bolting new and exciting routes. There are also around 24 climbing crags, each differnt with wonderful names such as “Baby Frog” and “The Egg”. Routes range from an easy 5.5 to a impressive 5.14a. So whatever your level there is a multitude of routes for you to try. Most of the routes are single pitch routes but the few multi-pitches around often top out on towers and allow for a spectacular view. Most climbing areas are within 10 kilometers of the centre of town and can be accessed by bicycle, mini van taxi, motorcycle taxi, or bus. You can hire a local bus for yourselves for around 20 to 25RMB (just ask us to book it for you free of charge) though it is sometimes more fun to hop on a bicycle which is only 5 RMB for the whole day.
What types of climbing courses does Xclimber offer?
Most of our customers are beginners and opt for the half day trip, which consists of around 4 to five hours on a variation of routes. A whole day is just as rewarding and allows for the customer to try two different climbing areas if they wish. We also offer multi-pitch climbing (climbing multiple routes straight up a mountain face) and deep water soloing! If you are keep to learn the ropes we also offer a package course consisting of how many days you wish to learn for. Another exciting activity we specialise in is abseiling, either 300m down the gaping arch of Moon Hill or the less scary spot of Treasure Cave.
What qualifications do Xclimber’s guides have?
All our guides are hand picked not just for their competent climbing but their awareness of safety and customer service. Every guide speaks both Chinese and English and is certified in top roping and lead climbing. Also each member of staff has trained in the first aid course and we use only the highest quality gear, such as Petzel to ensure 100% safety. We have mainly Chinese guides though we do have forgein guides during the Western holiday seasons!
