Xclimber has been guiding people climbing for over fours years from its established base in Yangshuo. Xclimber consists of Alex or as his Chinese friends call him Xitang and his team of hard working bi-lingual staff. Coming from the countryside aged sixteen and with little English Alex work hard to turn his future from being a farmer into one of China’s best climbers. Ten years worth of experience later, with excellent English of course, he guides a wide range of customers to the beautiful crags of Yangshou. Each year sees the company grow bigger and bigger through its efficiency and ability to provide for all kinds of people.
Where is Xclimber based
Xclimber is located in the heart of Yangshou on Guihua road, just next to the famous West Street. Click here for a link to our map and full address.
What is Yangshuo like
Yangshuo is a small farming town rapidly becoming China's tourist town attracting hundreds of thousands of foreign and Chinese tourists to every year. Situated in the Guangxi Autonomous Region, Yangshuo provides tourists with a sound infrastructure offering dozens of hotels, cafes, restaurants and souvenirs shops in the pedestrian only tourist centre called West Street. West Street is a mixture of western style and Chinese tradition to produce a tourist friendly enviroment. As crime is virtually unheard of and road traffic is prohibited from the town centre, it is a safe environment even for children. And if your Chinese vocabulary is few and far between you will find a large number of English speakers only to happy to help you get around or chat over a cold beer and banana pancake. Some foreigners fall in love with Yansghuo and end up staying here a long time! If this phenomenon happens to you you can easily find a part time teaching job in one of the many English schools here. They have small classes of around 10 and you get a free apartment, food, visa sorted etc, a great deal!

When to Come
The weather
Spring and fall are the best options with perfect conditions. July and August might get hot and humid (although not hotter than e.g. the climbing in Thailand), and in December and January, you can still climb if you are a tough guide.

Yangshuo is a fairly tropical environment, and many people compare the weather and the type of limestone cliffs to that in Thailand. The best time to come to Yangshuo for climbing is in the fall, winter and even the summer, in fact climbing is possible year round.

In general, August to November are the best months for climbing here (as well as the month of March in the spring), If you like colder weather climbing, December through February are good ... and for those of you who like it hot, May through July. Climbing in the rain is possible in several areas, even in the biggest downpours.
How much do things cost in Yangshuo
Life in China is relatively cheap compared to its Asian counter-parts. An example of prices in Yangshuo:
A local bus to a crag – 2.5 RMB
A beer in a bar - 10 RMB
A loaf of bread 5 RMB
A bowl of noodles 2.5 RMB (yummy!)
A main meal in a western restaurant 20 to 30 RMB
Day rent of a bike 10 RMB
A taxi to a crag 20-30 RMB
Dorm bed 15 -30RMB
Nice hotel room 70 – 100RMB
There are a number of guest houses located in Yangshuo, most are clean and modern. Centrally located guest houses range from about 50 RMB to 150 RMB for a double room with air conditioning. Be aware of touts who may approach you, they can offer cheaper rooms but are usually located away from the main tourist areas. More expensive and up market accommodation is available up to a four star resort in the middle of the town. If you are in a large group it is advisable to let us book the room for you in advance, especially during the peak seaon as rooms can fill up quickly.
Does Yangshuo get busy during Chinese holidays
Yes unfortunately and prices also rise during this time as availability of hotels and train tickets decreases. However the hustle and bustle is a great experience, though sometimes frustrating when trying to find a hotel. However Xclimber can help you arrange this prior to your arrival so as to secure your trip. The Chinese have three national holidays, the first week of May and October weeks and Chinese New Year. Remember how many people there are in China, so be prepared!
Can you arrange hotel accommodation and airport pick-ups
Of course. We know how tired you are after flying half way around the world or having spent a night on a rickety old bus. Most buses from Shenzhen and Guangzhou get in to Yangshuo late and you are often met by touts who try and make you stay in their hotel for a ridiculous price. They will often say you are too far from the main street when in fact you are only a few minutes away! In the high season you need to book a hotel in advance. We are happy to do this for you and will find a nice room to suit your needs and budget. From the airport a taxi is a smooth 1 and 1/2 hours. Taking a taxi from the airport will set you back anything up to 400 RMB. However we can book the taxi in advance for almost half this price. Or if you like we can arrange a package for you, crammed with choosen activites that takes care of you once you arrive so all you need to do is explore, enjoy and let us do the hard work!
